Kindergarten-2nd Grade Activities
Recently, the students have enjoyed a variety of fun games and activities. A big focus has been on throwing. The students practiced how to throw and impressed me with how well their form was. They used this skill to play games such as "Clean Your Room" and "Swamp Ball."
Along with throwing, the students have played many tag games and recently enjoyed "Just Dance," during Halloween week, as seen below.
One thing is for certain, children love to move and love to play! With that in mind, one big focus so far this year in PE has been learning how to move in different ways. These students know how to walk, skip, gallop, jump, and hop. Soon they will be learning how to side-slide, jog, and run. They also know how to do jumping jacks, rocket launchers, and rock star jumps. If you come into our gym, you will be guaranteed to see one of these skills put to use whether it is in our warm-up or some type of tag game. Skills like these are important in building coordination and the students love to see how many ways they can move.
Along with different movement concepts, we have been working really hard on the skill of tossing. So far we have tossed to ourselves and partners and will be tossing to objects in the next couple of weeks. Tossing and catching are important skills that eventually build into throwing and learning team sports which is why we spend so much time on it. If you want a simple activity to do with your child, play a game of toss and catch and see what they have learned! They might amaze you.
