GREEN SMOOTHIES
We all know the importance of eating our vegetables but let's be honest, it's often hard to do. It's even harder to get kids to eat them. Well, there is a simpler way: GREEN SMOOTHIES! While they may look a little disgusting, they provide a serving of fruit AND vegetables. The taste of the fruit masks that of the vegetables so your kids don't even know they are drinking it. It is also really easy. You just take a green (I mainly use spinach or romain lettuce) and your favorite fruits, add a little water, and blend it up. It's that simple.
One of the easiest recipes is romain lettuce, bananas, and water. You may have to mess with the amount to get the right flavor. My favorite however is a berry green smoothie where I take about a cup each of my favorite berries (I use strawberries, blueberries, and rasberries), a couple handfuls of spinach, a cup of water or almond milk. If you use frozen berries, you are good to go. If you use fresh fruit, also add about 6 ice cubes. You can also add a little banana or some mint leaves for a different taste. I often throw in some Greek yogurt and a tbsp of peanut butter for some protein as well.
